All I Want for Christmas is…

I have been neglecting my writing lately, but not for lack of time. I have a lot of time on my hands but I am a little dizzy and not spending much time on the computer. I had a much needed and long awaited right knee replacement on December 6th and I am recovering slowly. This came 6 weeks after an arthroscopic clean up of my left knee in preparation of the replacement of the other one. Today is the two week mark since the 2nd surgery and although all is well, I am a bit annoyed, as my sister was doing much betterĀ  two weeks out from her knee replacement than I am now. What a whiner, huh? So… all I want for Christmas is to walk unaided by walker or cane. Seems like a reasonable request, doesn’t it? Oh – one more wish – I am also hoping that the guests we have here at our Albuquerque bed and breakfast for the Christmas Holiday have a great and memorable visit.knee replacement surgery

Although I am not going all out for Christmas this year, (with the abusive decorating and gifting), I feel it could be the best Christmas holiday yet. Toning things down to the heart of the matter is just what is needed sometimes. I am blessed that the guests who will be arriving a few days before Christmas feel the same way. They have asked us for a list of possible places to work helping the homeless here in Albuquerque on Christmas day and I had no trouble finding them plenty of contacts for that task. We will also offer them a list of lots of Albuquerque Christmas events and “must do” holiday venues, and they will also be invited to participate the lighting of Luminarias in our neighborhood on Christmas Eve. And, I will be sure to bake up some of the official New Mexico Christmas cookies – Biscochitos – a tradition that can’t be skipped. Well…maybe I’ll have to purchase the cookies this year, but I can share my recipe with you later this week.

Tomorrow I will post the list I prepared for my Christmas guests, complete with links. In the mean time, may I suggest that you all slow down and enjoy the Holidays. For me, this forced slow down may be just the Christmas blessing I needed. I will let you know! I will also do a follow up next month on my brand new DePuy Knee. It has already changed my life and rumor has it…it will only get better.

The knee picture above was taken 5 days after surgery. Right now the staples are gone and so is most of the redness and swelling. It still isn’t pretty, but who cares if it works! My doctor is the best. He gave me a sturdy ankle in 2004 after I had a motorcycle accident and that ankle is better than new for me. I have every reason to believe the knee will be awesome as well. New ankle, new spine parts (2008), and new knee – Hey I’m becoming the bionic woman!!
