What time is it? It’s State Fair time all over the US, and New Mexico is no exception. The New Mexico State Fair is too cool, and it’s located here right in the heart of Albuquerque. This year the Fair runs from September 10 through 26, but they have decided to not be open on Mondays and Tuesdays. I guess they are making cutbacks like everyone else out there, and Mondays-Tuesdays didn’t have great attendance anyway, so they opted for pulling in the crowds Wednesdays through Sunday with a fantastic lineup of entertainment, exhibits, events, and everything else that reeks of State Fair, NM style. Here’s the schedule:
2010 New Mexico State Fair Hours
10 am to 9 pm Wednesdays through Sundays
(Manuel Lujan Jr. Complex exhibits open until 10pm on Fri & Sat.)
10 am – 9 pm Wednesdays, Thursdays & Sundays
10 am – 10 pm Fridays & Saturdays
Entertainment Stages (just follow the music!)
Noon-9 pm Wednesdays & Thursdays
Noon-10 pm Fridays, Saturdays & Sundays
Carnival – on the Midway, of course!
Opens at noon Wednesdays & Thursdays
11 am – 10 pm Fridays, Saturdays & Sundays
What IS open on Monday and Tuesday
There will still be Live Horse Racing on Mondays and Tuesdays during the Fair at The Downs at Albuquerque, and the Casino at the Downs will be open these days as well. Livestock shows and competitions will also take place as scheduled on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Besides the entertainment and events, you will see all the usual suspects at The New Mexico State Fair. The roosters will be there for their crowing contest, the prize winning bulls, sheep, calves, alpacas, llamas and horses will all be posing for pictures, giant pumpkins and gourds will be displaying their blue ribbons, the petting zoo will have a new group of piglets, the tractors, the produce the award willing honey, homemade beers, quilts, you name it…and of course the midway rides light up the Albuquerque sky each night to guide everyone to The Fair. What are you waiting for? It is all just like you remember it and it is waiting for you.
