Everybody loves to get lost in a 7 acre field of corn, with no way out in sight, don’t they? I’m drawing up images in my mind…Children of the Corn! Well, it’s not like that for everyone. Mazes are becoming more popular every year all across America. Albuquerque is no exception.
The Rio Grande Community Farm is a non profit group that partners with Albuquerque Open Space, and each year in September and October they create a public maze throughout their Los Poblanos Fields location on Montaño Rd between 4th St and Rio Grande Blvd. The maize is built from corn, or rather is meticulously carved out of a corn field with GPS technology. The corn is left for wildlife to feed on over the winter. Everybody’s happy.
This years Maize Maze is a puzzle design of a crazy looking coyote with other critters built in, like rabbit, lizard, giant bird. It’s called Coyote Magic and be careful…it is designed to fool you! Don’t worry, they have hints posted along the way to help the lost. Our Albuquerque Bed and Breakfast guests loved walking this maze last year.
This is great family fun, but also can also be a fun start to a date night if you choose one of the late evening events planned for October. Here they are along with all the rest of the info you need for day time visits:
