The New Mexico Symphony Orchestra

The New Mexico Symphony Orchestra is performing one of my favorite classical music pieces on the last weekend of February, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 3 – Eroica. When I was a young woman in Junior High School we had an incredible band and we always had a medley of one of the classics in our repertoire. Eroica was one such piece and it is in my heart forever because of that experience. It nearly brings me to tears every time I hear it. I played the French Horn at that time.

bust of BeethovenOn Friday and Saturday, Feb 26 and 27 the performances will be at Popejoy Hall on the UNM Campus, and on Sunday they will be at the National Hispanic Cultural Center.

You may buy tickets online. If you attend one hour early you can get in on a free pre-concert lecture by conductor, Guillermo Figueroa, and he’ll talk, no doubt, about the ties to Napoleon Bonaparte and Eroica.

This concert can make a great spur of the moment  trip to Albuquerque for those of you who like to trek into the city once in a while from other parts of the state. Come on over! We still have rooms at our Albuquerque Bed and Breakfast for all three nights. We’ll wave the 2 night minimum in honor of Eroica and Beethoven! But if you check out the NHCC website I know you will find a good reason to stay another day to explore over there.

Visit the New Mexico Symphony website to see their entire schedule. There is something for everyone in their lineup.
