Casa de Sueños Country Inn – A New Mexico Dream

I wanted to get away for a few days, so when my friend Marlene asked me to come down to southern New Mexico for a visit I immediately blocked some time off and went as soon as I could. It was a four hour drive from my Albuquerque B&B to her Casa de Suenos, House of Dreams, located just outside of El Paso, near the border crossing at Santa Teresa, New Mexico.

Mountains of El Paso TexasMarlene and her husband George, (renamed Horge by their young next door neighbor who at 5 years old was already bilingual), named their Bed and Breakfast Casa de Suenos because it was their dream. I think it would be more appropriately named Tierra Mágica, Magical Land, because the landscape is truly magical.

Yucca plant and rainbowAnyone who thinks southern New Mexico is a lifeless desert should rethink that and stay at Casa de Suenos Country Inn for a few days. The landscape around this Pueblo style hacienda is thick with plants, wildlife and offers incredible views. My pictures here just don’t give it justice. I forgot to bring my camera and used my phone for pictures. The evening I took these shots was very windy and the rain was spitting down on us, but as true New Mexicans, we embraced the rain and were standing out side wishing to get wet. Because of the wind I was a little shaky, but I wanted to share the feeling with my readers, so bear with the fuzziness and feel the color of the enchanted evening light.

There is a very large porch that faces east in the evening. The mountains catch the sunset and light up like a luminaria. There is never a time during day or night that you won’t hear the wildlife all around the home. I was truly enchanted. I saw many varieties of bird and they sang all day. There were also bunnies, quail and strange lizards that did push ups on the porch and walls.

The decor and feel of Casa de Suenos is very much like our own B&B, Adobe Nido in Albuquerque, with a southwestern/mexican style, but the experience of nature was very different, and being treated like a guest instead if being the innkeeper was a really good feeling.

Thank you George and Marlene! I return home refreshed.

I know the best things to do in New Mexico!

I completely agree. I, my mother and brother recently had a 7 night stay at Casa de Suenos. George and Marlene made us feel very welcome and their breakfasts were yummie.
