Albuquerque’s Bugg Light Christmas Display

There’s a lot to do in Albuquerque in December. Like other cities, Albuquerque has it’s fair share of Holiday Traditions between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Eve, so I’m going to cover some of my favorites in the next few days.

First up is a truly home grown tradition – Albuquerque’s own Bugg Light Christmas Display. The Bugg Family, Norman and Joyce Bugg, started this tradition at their home in the northeast heights of Albuquerque back in the 1970’s. The popularity got to be to much for the neighborhood to handle, as you can well imagine. Lines of cars and pedestrians blocked people from getting to their homes. The Bugg Lights had moved around to various locations since the neighborhood outed the event, but has now found a fantastic permanent home at Albuquerque’s Menaul School.Bugg Lights in Albuquerque

Besides the new home, the Bugg Light Christmas Display has received an upgrade to LED lights and solar power, and some new displays designed by Menaul School staff and students.

This is big time fun for everyone, folks and although it’s not as big a spectacle as the city event, it’s FREE and awesome too. Stroll through and enjoy the Holiday. Even though it is a free event you can still donate to the cause and keep the Bugg Lights Querky!

The Bugg Lights is also looking for volunteers to help out, so if you’re feeling in the Holiday Spirit please go to their website and fill out the form! Here is the skinny on this fabulous Albuquerque Christmas Tradition.

I grew up down the street from the Bugg House on Morrow. I have been gone since 1986 but the display is one of my fondest childhood memories. There was always a crowd there to view the lights and I am not surprised that it just got too big for the old Inez neighborhood

The house was always a point of interest to us kids growing up around there, during the summer one our way to the Giraffe Park we would admire the great big Tulip Tree.

Thank for the trip down memory lane

The Bugg House was one of my favorite traditions. Miss things like that now that I don’t live in NM. :-(
