The City of Albuquerque is offering many free concerts during the summer months in 2011. Free Music. Who can complain about that? Residents of Albuquerque and visitors alike can share in the fun at Summerfest and Albuquerque’s Concert Band Summer Series of Concerts located all over the City.
Summerfest
There are three more Summerfest Concerts to enjoy, one each in June, July and August. All are on Saturday evenings and run from 7:00-10:30pm. Summerfest is more than a concert – it’s more like a big carnival or fiesta. Lots of booths, food and fun for all ages. There is always dancing too. Some people just can’t help themselves when the rhythm gets them. Here are the dates and locations:
Saturday, June 18, 2011 at Harry E. Kinney Civic Plaza, downtown Albuquerque
Featured Artist – Bobby Hendrick’s Drifters
Saturday, July 23, 2011 on Central Avenue (Rt.66) in Nob Hill just east of the University of NM.
Featured Artist – Jazz Saxophonist Maceo Parker, presented by the NM Jazz Festival
Saturday, August 20, 2011 – at the Cottonwood Mall on the Westside
Featuring Atlantic Records Recording Artist Ryan Star
Arts in the Parks – Albuquerque Concert Band
The Albuquerque Concert Band is a group of volunteer musicians that play just for the love of music, and have been in existence for over forty years. They will be performing in various parks all over the city this summer. Bring a picnic basket, blankets and chairs and sit back, relax and enjoy the music. I am partial to concert bands – having been a horn player for most of my younger years – Euphonium, aka Baritone horn), Trombone and French Horn. Trombone was my favorite.
Concerts are on Wednesday evenings from 7 to 8pm. Here is the Concert Band line up:
June 8, 2011 – Robinson Park
801 Central SW, Downtown
June 22, 2011 – Netherwood Park
2601 Morrow NE up in the Heights, Midtown, Indian School and I-25
July 6, 2011 – Westbluff Park
