Today marks the start of the 7th Annual New Mexico Jazz Festival, a much awaited event that New Mexico jazz and blues enthusiasts work hard to produce, participate in, and/or just plain enjoy. The festival runs through 29, 2012. We’re going down the street tonight to the Pueblo Harvest Cafe to see local blues/jazz artists Soul Kitchen with Chris Dracup and Hillary Smith, but we can see them most any weekend, as they are Albuquerque’s own. No matter….we love it!
In my opinion, New Mexico, (Albuquerque in particular), is a pretty Jazz/Blues friendly place year round with quite a few venues that feature local artists, but this event is a chance for you to see artists perform that you normally wouldn’t see in New Mexico. The full schedule for this great summer time event can be found here at the New Mexico Jazz Festival website. There are a couple of venues in Santa Fe and Albuquerque, and here they are:
The Outpost Performance Space (various dates)
210 Yale Blvd. SE
Route 66 Summerfest (July 21, 2012)
Nob Hill – Central Ave. between Girard & Washington
Old Town (Sat, July 14, 2012)
Gazebo on the Plaza
The Lensic Performing Arts Center (various dates)
211 West San Francisco St
Santa Fe Plaza Tues (July 17, 2012)
West San Franciso St. and Lincoln Avenue
On the NM Jazz Festival website they are promoting that you book through a certain booking engine for lodging during the festival because they will get a donation for each reservation made, but if you can’t get the room/nights you want, please consider keeping it local and try our Albuquerque bed and breakfast, Adobe Nido.
Ticket info and the schedule of artists and venues can be found on the New Mexico Jazz Festival website. Stay tuned for more info and venues for summer Jazz in Albuquerque in a couple of days!
