Albuquerque is lucky to host the The Gathering of Nations, the largest Pow Wow in North America. It is takes place in April every year in the Duke City, New Mexico and draws an incredible number of tribal peoples from North, Central and South America. This is definitely a one of a kind Native American event, and nothing else even comes close. It is the biggest and the best of all Pow Wows in the world, and it gets better every year.
What – Gathering on Nations
When – April 26-28, 2012
Where – University of New Mexico Arena (The Pit”)
Avenida Cesar Chavez & University Blvd SE, Interstate 25 exit 223
The highlights of this spectacular and magical event are the talent show including the yearly Crowning of Miss Indian World, and the unique Indian Trader’s Market. Don’t miss either. The biggest pow wow ever also includes lots of singing, drumming, dancing, selling of crafts and sharing of cultures and foods. People say that the Balloon Fiesta is the most colorful event in New Mexico, but I have to say I think the Gathering of Nations is the most colorful event I have ever seen anywhere, and I have been to plenty of Balloon Fiestas.
You may buy tickets online for The Gathering of Nations until Saturday, April 21, 2012. Visit their official website, where you will find a schedule of events and everything else you may need to know to choose the events you would like to attend. We no longer have availability at Adobe Nido B&B during the Gathering of Nations, but we will be happy to point out another great Albuquerque Bed and Breakfast, or check this website of Albuquerque inns.
The Gathering of Nations is held at The Pit – its traditional home. The talent shows and Miss Indian World events will be held at the Hard Rock Casino on April 26, on Isleta Pueblo, just south of Albuquerque. These two venues are only a couple of miles from each other.
